2025-26 Boys Team Tryouts
Mintonette Sports offers club teams for boys grades 5-12. Check out the information below to learn more about our club teams and how to join.
This season we are offering teams in the following age groups:
- Age Groups: 12U-18U (Grades 5-12)
- Divisions: Regional/American & National
To join a club team, follow the steps below:
1. DETERMINE YOUR AGE GROUP
Age definitions are set by the USAV and the OVR (governing bodies).
- 12U = born on or after 7/1/2013
- 13U = born between 7/1/2012 - 6/30/2013
- 14U = born between 7/1/2011 - 6/30/2012
- 15U = born between 7/1/2010 - 6/30/2011
- 16U = born between 7/1/2009 - 6/30/2010
- 17U = born between 7/1/2008 - 6/30/2009
- 18U = born on or before 6/30/2008
Note: due to tournament restrictions, players may no longer play "grade level" in a younger age group at Mintonette.
2. ATTEND OPEN HOUSE
Our Open House is a GREAT way to get to know our club, staff, and coaches before committing to play on a team. During our open house, we'll announce more details about each of our club teams, including costs, practice schedules, and tournament schedules.
Returning players and families will be in attendance as well, which is a great opportunity to talk to them about their Mintonette experience.

3. GET TO KNOW US ON THE COURT
Before trying out for a club team, we suggest attending a camp or clinic to make sure your son enjoys playing with Mintonette. Any of our training sessions will give you a very good idea of what practices will be like throughout the season. Mintonette will be offering the following throughout the year:
- Small Group Training (free through June 15th!)
- Pre-Tryout Clinics
- All-Skills Clinics

4. LEARN ABOUT OUR TEAMS
This season we will offer teams in the following divisions and age groups:
- Age Groups: 12U-18U
- Divisions: Regional & National

More teams may be added at tryouts depending on the number of registrations for each age group. The division for new teams added will be determined by the tryout evaluations. For example, we may add another 16s age group team: b.63.

5. ATTEND TRYOUTS
Everyone must attend tryouts to play on a team. Players will participate in a 2.5 hour tryout session to be evaluated by our coaches and club director. We will evaluate general volleyball and athletic abilities. We will also evaluate who is coachable and a hard worker, as well as who has the potential to be a good teammate. Players do not need to commit to specific positions at tryouts. We will evaluate all positional skills and build teams based on everything we see at tryouts. Players will receive team-specific offers via email within 24-48 hours of their tryout.

- Saturday, July 12th, 6-8:30pm
Makeup Tryouts (12U-18U):
- July 13, 5-7pm
- July 14, 5-7pm
- Fall TBA, only if spots are available
